Liverpool v Leicester City: Team news
Liverpool are hopeful several senior players will be in contention to face Leicester City at Anfield on Wednesday night following respective injuries and illnesses.
Jürgen Klopp confirmed Virgil van Dijk was back in training following a bout of sickness.
Fabinho was set to join his teammates in Tuesday evening’s workout at Melwood after he too overcame a brief virus, as well as a knock sustained against Crystal Palace last time out.
Georginio Wijnaldum (knee) and Dejan Lovren (hamstring) are also back to full fitness.
However, Trent Alexander-Arnold will sit out the contest due to a knee problem of his own, though Klopp reported the full-back has made good progress in his rehabilitation.
James Milner is suspended for this match as a result of the red card he received in the closing moments of Liverpool’s 4-3 win over Palace.
With Joe Gomez continuing to work his way back to peak condition after sustaining a lower leg fracture in December, it means Klopp will have a decision to make on who is deployed on the right side of the Reds’ defence - but the manager was giving nothing away in his pre-match press conference, simply saying: “You will have to wait until tomorrow… but we will play with a right-back or a right wing-back!”
Elsewhere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is building towards match fitness as he nears the end of his rehabilitation from multiple ligament damage in his knee.
Leicester, meanwhile, will be able to call on the services of Harry Maguire.
The centre-back was forced off after sustaining a knock during the Foxes’ last match - a 4-3 defeat by Wolverhampton Wanderers - but Claude Puel confirmed on Monday that he is ‘match fit [and] will be present’ at Anfield.
Long-term absentee Daniel Amartey (ankle) is the only Leicester player ruled out through injury.
