Liverpool v Porto: Team news
Jürgen Klopp will make a late decision on the involvement of Jordan Henderson and Andy Robertson in Liverpool’s Champions League clash with FC Porto.
Henderson appeared from the bench during Saturday’s 4-0 win over Arsenal, a match Robertson missed altogether due to an injury picked up during the international break.
The Reds have, of course, already secured top spot in Group B and Klopp will take no risks for Wednesday’s matchday five game against Porto at Anfield.
“We always respect the competition but we have to think about ourselves, our schedule and the situation of our players first,” the boss said on Tuesday.
“Hendo, we will see. Yesterday, I would say maybe he was not at 100 per cent. So he can play, he can do pretty much everything but it’s about really being at 100 per cent fit.
“So I thought when he came on against Arsenal it was just to see the game out and controlling a little bit – that was exactly actually what he had to do from the rehab point of view, so he used these few minutes. But now we have to see. I don’t know 100 per cent.
“Robbo, similar. Both are OK, but are both now ready to play, ready to start with the schedule, with games coming up? We have to make these decisions.
“We didn’t make these decisions yet, to be honest, because, how we all know, in this time of the season the medical department has a big hand in line-ups. So we will see.”
Roberto Firmino (hamstring), Joe Gomez (calf), Naby Keita (hamstring), James Milner (hamstring) and Divock Origi (illness) did not feature in the weekend victory versus the Gunners, but Milner and Origi trained with their teammates on Tuesday.
Harvey Elliott (ankle) and Curtis Jones (eye) remain sidelined.
Sadio Mane is in line to play his 50th European game for the club on Wednesday.
Porto coach Sergio Conceicao, meanwhile, told the media that defender Ivan Marcano will not be available, but he is hopeful of being able to call on Pepe.
“Marcano will not travel with us,” Conceicao stated.
“Pepe will travel, but it will be until the last minute to try to recover a player who has weight not only on the field but in the dressing room. There is still some hope.”
