Mohamed Salah provided an assist as Egypt secured qualification for next year's Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday night.

The Liverpool forward was involved throughout his country’s 2-1 victory over Naby Keita’s Guinea, which was achieved from a goal behind.

Breaking free in behind the opposition defence shortly before the interval, Salah squared across the area for Trezeguet, who dispatched a finish into the bottom left corner.

Mostafa Mohamed then completed the turnaround in the second half in Marrakech as Egypt booked their spot at the AFCON final tournament from Group D.

There was disappointment for Cody Gakpo and Virgil van Dijk, however, as the Netherlands were beaten 4-2 by Croatia after extra-time in the UEFA Nations League semi-finals.

Both Reds started the game in Rotterdam, where second-half goals from Andrej Kramaric and Mario Pasalic overturned Donyell Malen’s opener in minute 34.

Noa Lang grabbed a stoppage-time leveller for the Dutch, but Croatia gained a place in the final courtesy of Bruno Petkovic’s strike and Luka Modric’s penalty during the additional half-hour.

The Netherlands will therefore contest the competition’s third-place play-off on Sunday afternoon. Spain and Italy meet in the other last-four tie on Thursday evening.
