Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones win U21 European Championship with England
Curtis Jones claimed the winning goal as England triumphed at the U21 European Championship on Saturday evening.
The Liverpool midfielder played the whole of the final against Spain, which the Young Lions won 1-0 at Batumi Arena in Georgia.
Jones was credited with the game’s only strike as Cole Palmer’s free-kick in first-half added time deflected off him and found the net, and was later named Player of the Match too.
Lee Carsley’s side – for whom Harvey Elliott came off the bench eight minutes from the end – recorded their sixth consecutive clean sheet at the competition in dramatic fashion.
Goalkeeper James Trafford saved a penalty from Abel Ruiz nine minutes beyond the 90 to preserve England’s lead and secure the trophy.
Jones was making his fifth start at the tournament and Elliott featured on five occasions as the Young Lions were crowned U21 Euro champions for the first time since 1984.
