One to watch: Andre Wisdom
We've asked seven experts to pick a player to watch for 2011-12, with their selections featuring on .tv over the course of this week. Today, LFC TV presenter Claire Rourke highlights a defender whose maturity belies his tender age.
Player profile: A commanding centre-back who was made captain of the reserves for 2010-11 after helping England lift the U17s European Championships last summer.
A knee injury sidelined Wisdom for three and a half months at the start of the campaign, but he returned in the New Year stronger than ever before and earned international recognition at U19 level.
Wisdom, who can also operate adeptly at right-back or in the centre of midfield, was named on the first-team bench twice during the course of the season and was included in the Europa League squad.
Claire says: Andre Wisdom is young man who I believe has a big future ahead of him.
He continued his growth in stature over the course of 2010-11, ultimately earning himself a place on the first-team bench on the final day of the season at Aston Villa.
Having started the season so promisingly, Wisdom was ruled out for three and a half months after getting injured while playing for England U19s.
However, undeterred by the setback, he returned stronger and hungrier than ever before and led by example while wearing the captain's armband for the reserves.
A powerful presence at the back, the teenager has all the hallmarks of a natural leader with an ability to organise and motivate his teammates.
His maturity extends beyond the field too, speaking in interviews with a level-headedness and composure that defies his age.
Despite his rapid development, Andre has retained a determination to improve even further and is always eager to listen to constructive advice from former players.
At times this season he's played like a man amongst boys, and I'm certain it won't be long before Andre is making his mark on the senior side.
