Adam Morgan has revealed his determination to continue where he left off last season - with a flood of goals.

The striker enjoyed a superb first year with the U18s, netting 21 times as the young Reds came within a whisker of title glory.

An eye-catching appearance with England at the U17 World Cup in Mexico followed before a return to Kirkby where he has notched four goals in two pre-season appearances so far.

Speaking after his brace in Wednesday's 7-0 triumph over Preston, Morgan told Liverpoolfc.tv: "I've been raring to go since the end of last season because I finished on such a high.

"I've had a good break. Mexico was a good experience but I just want to concentrate on Liverpool now and have a good season."

Morgan emerged as a key performer for the U18s under the guidance of Rodolfo Borrell last season.

The Spaniard's impressive record in Kirkby saw him promoted to reserve team boss during the summer, and while the 17-year-old would love to be involved with the second-string, he is more than content to be a mainstay of the U18 side.

He added: "We've got a lot of lads capable of scoring goals and I'm looking forward to playing in this side throughout the season.

"If I can maintain last season's form, I'll progress and play for Rodo again hopefully. I have a lot to thank him for, but I like working under Marshy and I don't mind what team I play for as long as it's for Liverpool."

Morgan also had some words of praise for Conor Coady after last year's U18 skipper netted on his full debut for the first-team during their recent tour of Asia.

He said: "I watched the game at home and wondered, 'what's he doing that far up the pitch!' But I'm really happy for him. I was quick to BBM him after the game. To play alongside the new signings like Charlie Adam - you can't ask for much better than that."

Meanwhile, new U18 coach Mike Marsh praised his side following Wednesday's 7-0 friendly success against Preston.

The young Reds continued their free-scoring pre-season by taking their tally to 21 goals in just three matches, leaving the boss delighted with the run-out.

"We played really well," he said. "We've scored a lot of goals. We had 21 changes and got a lot of minutes on the pitch, so we are improving all of the time.

"We've got a lot of attack minded players out there. We are short of defenders so we have players playing at full-back and centre half that are naturally midfielders, so we are better going forward than at the back at the moment. I think that's where the key lies.

"Seven was a fair scoreline. We do score a lot of goals. If you look at how we played at U16 level last season you can see why we create so many chances."
