Liverpool Ladies marked the end of the mid-season break by holding league-leaders Manchester City to a 1-1 draw away from home in the WSL on Sunday.

Playing their first fixture since the end of May, Scott Rogers' side took the lead after just five minutes at the City Football Academy.

New Zealand international Rosie White was the scorer, as she finished well inside the box to notch the first goal City had conceded in the league so far this season.

The Reds subsequently had the best of the remainder of the first half and were unlucky not to double their advantage through Caroline Weir, who hit the bar after good work from Satara Murray.

Having struggled to get a foothold during the opening 45 minutes, City made a change at the break as Nikita Parris replaced Daphne Corboz.

That switch paid dividends as the hosts' performance improved immeasurably in the second half, and it was no surprise to see Parris involved when the Blues finally got their breakthrough.

With 70 minutes on the clock, the Scouse forward sent in a low cross from wide and Jane Ross had the simple job of levelling things up from close range.

Neither team appeared happy to settle for a point in the closing stages of the game, as they pushed forward in droves searching for a winner,

However, the defences held firm to ensure it ended honours even in Manchester, meaning the Reds have now twice denied City league wins this season - a feat no other team has yet managed once.
