Unbeaten run ends as Ladies lose at Birmingham
It was a frustrating day for Liverpool Ladies as they lost 2-1 away to Birmingham in the Women's Super League on Sunday.
Scott Rogers' charges went into the game on the back of an eight game unbeaten run in the WSL, but just like the recent Continental Cup defeat Solihull Moors would not prove to be a happy hunting ground for the Reds.
Things didn't start well for Rogers when he was forced to make a late change after Mandy Van Den Berg picked up a knock in the warm-up, and Martha Harris came into the starting XI.
Both sides had good chances in the opening 45 minutes with Emma Lundh and Laura Coombs going close for the Reds.
The home side then took the lead through former Red Corina Schroder as the German defender netted on her Birmingham debut.
Liverpool Ladies continued to press for an equaliser and when Rosie White was brought down for a penalty, the chance arrived.
Zelem duly netted from 12-yards out as the Reds were deservedly level.
However, with 15 minutes left the home side regained the lead when Kerys Harrop netted following a long throw.
Rogers' side then pressed hard for an equaliser as Shanice Van De Sanden, Gemma Bonner and Zelem all went close, but it was just wasn't to be their day.
