Klopp could be appointed by end of the week
Liverpool hope to appoint Jurgen Klopp as their new manager by the end of the week after he expressed a willingness to return to management and oversee the club's revival.
Top-level talks between the Anfield hierarchy and the former Borussia Dortmund coach and his representatives will continue in the coming days as Liverpool look to close a deal for Brendan Rodgers' successor.
Klopp, 48, has been on sabbatical since leaving Dortmund at the end of last season after seven years, but has indicated a desire to join Liverpool with a three-year contract having been mooted.
It is understood he will work with the existing transfer committee. He is also likely to bring two key members of his staff during his time at Dortmund, Zeljko Buvac and Peter Krawietz, with him to Merseyside.
Liverpool principal owner John W Henry first targeted Klopp in 2012 after the dismissal of Kenny Dalglish, but he wanted to remain in Germany at that point and Rodgers was recruited instead.
Former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has also been under consideration, but he has told friends he expects Klopp to be named as Liverpool's next manager.
