Reds exploring Gerrard friendly
Liverpool are exploring the possibility of facing Steven Gerrard's LA Galaxy in a pre-season friendly next summer, with chief executive Ian Ayre confirming the club will tour the United States once again.
The Reds were widely expected to return to the US after their successful time there in the summer of 2014, and Ayre has now revealed the club are looking into games on both coasts, although the west coast is likelier to see more action.
That could open the door for a game in Los Angeles against their former captain, with Ayre admitting it is an idea he will discuss with Gerrard.
“Absolutely, that’s something we have on our radar of ideas,” Ayre told BBC Sport. “Steven is back in Liverpool at the moment and I’m sure we’ll get a chance to catch up and see what he thinks about that as an idea.
“It’s brilliant we have Steven in the US market, he’s been such a great servant to Liverpool and for him to be here - hopefully telling people how great the club is, if they don’t already know.
“That can only be good for us."
Liverpool’s last tour of the country last year saw them play in Boston, New York, Chicago, Charlotte and Miami.
Though Boston has become a routine stop for the Reds since Fenway Sports Group took charge, Ayre believes the club will look to the other side of the country more for their next pre-season trip.
“We’ll come to the US next summer for certain,” he added. “We don’t have any information of where.
“We’re trying to look at maybe the west coast, and a little bit of the east coast. Typically we’ve done the east coast in the past so maybe the west coast, but still negotiating with various people and who and where we’ll play, but we’re always excited.
“We always try to come here in the tournament years as we call them – Euros and World Cup – as the players come back a little bit later, it’s not so far.
“We try to balance with pre-season a very important time with manager and players, not travelling too far, great communication, great transport links.
“We’ve done it before and always get a great reception, so we look forward to it.”
