Reds handed major boost to secure deal for La Liga midfielder
Liverpool have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Malaga’s Ignacio Camacho.
The Spaniard has been linked with a move to Anfield in recent weeks after he was reportedly spotted at the club’s Melwood training ground with his agent earlier this month.
Reports in Spain emerged yesterday that Malaga aren’t willing to sell their star man for any less than his reported £15.7million release clause.
But cash-strapped Malaga are in desperate need of funds and latest reports according to The Mirror, suggest they may be forced to sell Camacho for as little as £4m.
The Reds have been keeping tabs on the 25-year-old as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his midfield options this summer.
Camacho has made 148 appearances for Malaga since joining the Costa del Sol club from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
A captain of his country’s title-winning under-17 side in the 2007 European Championships, Camacho failed to impress at senior level.
Camacho has just one senior cap to his name that came in a friendly against Germany in 2014.
Earlier this month the Malaga ace put potential suitors on alert by saying he would be open to leaving the club in the summer.
He said: ”If I do leave here then I want it to be done well and that Malaga are not angry with me.
"But I also think you need to look at the market and its value in case you leave. We all know Malaga's situation, which isn't too bad, but they could be forced to sell for a reasonable price.
"It's always good when teams are looking at you because it means you are doing things right, both individually and collectively. The situation at Malaga is good and that benefits me.
"I have a contract here but if anyone wants to come in for me, then they will have to negotiate."
