Liverpool have reportedly been told they can sign Cologne defender Jonas Hector for just £12million this summer.

The Reds are thought to be trailing Hector, 25, and want to secure his services after Euro 2016.

Anfield manager Jurgen Klopp sent two representatives to watch the left-back in action during Germany's 3-2 defeat to England on Saturday.

And the Daily Mirror claim former Dortmund head coach Klopp was impressed by what he's seen of the defender.

According to the claims, Cologne do not want to sell Hector but are realistic about those chances.

The Bundesliga outfit are said to have quoted Liverpool £12m for the player, whose contract expires in 2018.

And that figure is well within the Reds' transfer budget for the summer.

Hector boasts 33 appearances for club and country this season, having made his debut for Cologne four years ago.

He has picked up 11 caps for Germany and only made his debut during Euro 2016 qualifying, having been overlooked for the triumphant World Cup 2014 campaign.

Asked last week if he would agree a switch to Liverpool, he told ESPN: "You always have to consider whether you are ready to take the next step.

"But at the moment I am not thinking about it.

"I think what we have to do at FC Koln is enough. I also have with the national team a big tournament ahead of us."

But when asked if Klopp could persuade him, he replied: "Then I would start to think about it."
