Liverpool are reportedly closing in on a deal for Piotr Zielinski after appearing to drop their interest in him earlier this week.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has made strengthening his midfield a transfer priority and the Reds have been linked with a number of players.

Zielinski was spotted last week holding a Liverpool shirt and he seemed close to moving to Anfield.

But his agent played down the reports and revealed Roma, Napoli and Borussia Dortmund were ahead of them in the race to his signature.

It then led Klopp to make Borussia Monchengladbach's Mahmoud Dahoud his new top target but a deal for him is complicated due to the sales of Havard Nordtveit and Granit Xhaka.

And Italian outlet Messaggero Sport now claim Liverpool have made a u-turn and decided to move again for Zielinski.

It is claimed that after 'a few days of reflection' Liverpool want to wrap up a deal for the midfielder, who scored five goals in 36 appearances for Empoli this season.
