Napoli are closing in on a deal for Piotr Zielinski, according to reports in Italy.

The Poland international has spent the last two seasons on loan with Empoli, making 63 appearances.

And his performances in Serie A attracted the attention of Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp.

Klopp is set to remodel his Reds squad this summer ahead of his first full Premier League campaign.

And Zielinski was believed to be one of his top targets, with reports last month that a deal was imminent.

The 22-year-old recently spoke of his admiration for the Liverpool manager.

"Regardless of my personal situation, Klopp is one of the best managers around and it would certainly be an honour to work with him," he told WhoScored.com.

And he was even pictured in a Liverpool shirt.

However, Napoli are said to be close to a deal to secure his services.

Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport claims the Serie A side are deep in negotiations with Udinese, who Zielinski is contracted to.

Earlier this week, La Gazetta dello Sport said a swap deal was in the offing, with Udinese offered a choice between Mirko Valdifiori, Juan Zuniga and Christian Maggio in exchange for Zielinski.

Players have transferred between the two clubs before, including Leicester midfielder Gokhan Inler, and Corriere dello Sport says a “mutual respect” could help seal the deal.

Zielinski has been named in Poland’s Euro 2016 squad, where they will take on Germany, Northern Ireland and Ukraine.
