Liverpool plot Georginio Wijnaldum transfer this week
Georginio Wijnaldum wants a £25million move to Liverpool – and that could land Newcastle a £10m profit.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are ready to make their move and conduct a medical before finalising a quick deal this week, with Dutch international Wijnaldum insistent he wants out of St James’ Park following last season's relegation.
Liverpool have been left with a clear run at the 25-year-old midfielder, with Tottenham now out of the bidding.
Boss Mauricio Pochettino remains a huge fan, but agrees with his club’s decision not to go near the Magpies ' asking price.
Wijnaldum was top scorer last season with 11 goals and is the Championship club’s top-rated asset, along with France’s Euro 2016 star Moussa Sissoko.
Newcastle paid £14.5m to PSV Eindhoven for the Eredivisie championship-winning midfielder last summer and will only sell for close to £25m.
Boss Rafa Benitez admits he is ready to let players move on, saying: “We maybe have to sell some players, but that is normal.”
