Georginio Wijnaldum to have Liverpool medical
Georginio Wijnaldum will have a medical on Merseyside on Friday after Liverpool agreed a fee with Newcastle for the Dutch international.
The 25-year-old is expected to cost the Reds £25m and will fly out to meet Jurgen Klopp and his squad on their American tour once he has passed the necessary tests.
Attacking midfielder Wijnaldum scored 11 goals during his 12 months on Tyneside but relegation for the Geordies saw him anxious to move on.
The ECHO understands the deal is worth £23m up front with another possible £2m in add-ons.
Wijnaldum will become the sixth signing of the Jurgen Klopp era at Anfield and the second most expensive after the £30m capture of Sadio Mane from Southampton.
Wijnaldum played 10 minutes for Rafa Benitez's men last night against Doncaster Rovers after coming on as a late substitute but will now make his way to the north west.
He will become the second Liverpool signing of this week after the £4.2m deal for Estonian centre-back Ragnar Klavan.
