Reds target Mahmoud Dahoud has release clause
The name Mahmoud Dahoud has been linked with Liverpool all summer long.
The Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder, 20, was identified by Jurgen Klopp as a key transfer target earlier in the summer.
The Reds were willing to pay around £25m to bring the German U21 international to Anfield, but Gladbach’s determination to hold on to their young star meant they were unable to agree a suitable deal.
The understanding was that Liverpool were prepared to wait until next summer to secure the transfer, and reports in Germany on Wednesday may provide a clue as to why.
SportBild report that Dahoud would be able to leave Gladbach next summer for just 10m Euros (£8.55m) due to a clause in his contract.
Dahoud’s current contract runs until 2018, so he would be set to enter the final year of that deal next summer.
Bild also report that both Juventus and Borussia Dortmund have expressed an interest in signing the youngster, so if Liverpool were hoping for a cut-price deal then they would face stiff competition.
However, Dahoud’s agent, Reza Fazeli, has told the Guardian there is no release fee agreed with the club.
“It is certain Mahmoud will stay with Gladbach for now,” he said. “There has been a lot of interest in him, not just from Liverpool. But we have an agreement with Gladbach and everything has been postponed for next season.
“We will have to wait and see what happens in the future but it will be up to the club to accept a fee they think is acceptable.”
