Reds enquire about Madrid's James Rodriguez
Liverpool have reportedly enquired about James Rodriguez's availability - but Real Madrid don't believe the Reds can afford him.
Rodriguez is apparently free to leave the Bernabeu this summer after failing to break into manager Zinedine Zidane's first team.
The Colombia international is not content with a role on the bench and is thought to be actively seeking a new club.
Express Sport understands Chelsea have lodged a £60million bid for the attacker.
But the Blues are not alone in their interest.
That is according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, who claim Liverpool have asked to know of Real's demands for the player.
But the report claims the Merseyside club are unlikely to meet Real president Florentino Perez's valuation.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has already spent almost £70million on new players this summer and is said to be keen on bolstering his squad further.
But Mundo Deportivo suggest the likelihood of Liverpool breaking their transfer record in order to land Rodriguez is slim.
Klopp has already hit out at the English 'obsession' with signing players, claiming: "I really wait for the day when finally the transfer window is closed, because I can't believe how obsessed you all are with this. You don't believe for a second in improvement on the training pitch."
Arsenal, Milan and Paris Saint-Germain are also mentioned as viable candidates to sign Rodriguez this summer, although Real may have to drop their price if they are to guarantee the 25-year-old leaves before deadline day.
Milan hope new investment from a Chinese consortium can see them rival Europe's elite both on and off the pitch, while Arsenal are yet to sign a marquee player this summer.
As for PSG, they signed Real's Jese in a £21.2m deal at the start of August but are still supposedly seeking a replacement forward for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who left the Ligue 1 champions for Manchester United.
