Roy Evans delighted with Klopp's Liverpool
Former Liverpool boss Roy Evans believes it’s a case of “so far, so good” for Liverpool as the weekend marked one year since Jurgen Klopp took over at Anfield.
A stalwart of the Boot Room era, Evans believes Klopp’s team is close to becoming “a force to be reckoned with” in the Premier League and said he has been delighted with what he has witnessed in the last 12 months.
Evans’ Liverpool teams of the mid to late 90s were renowned for some scintillating football and he thinks the German has given his players licence to entertain when they cross the white lines.
He feels they just need to add one thing to their game, something which his own teams were sometimes criticised for too.
He told the ECHO: “So far, so good, I’ve been delighted with what I’ve seen from Jurgen’s team. I’m enjoying watching them and they seem to play with that little bit of freedom.
“Just occasionally they become a little bit inconsistent but if we can get rid of that we can be a force to be reckoned with. I think Jurgen’s done fantastically in his first year, he’s got all the fans on his side.
"I like what he says about people enjoying their football and the players enjoying their games.
“He talks a lot of sense and he’s passionate about the game.”
So how far can Klopp’s Liverpool reach in his second year at Anfield?
“Hopefully this year we can be successful and make the top four which I think we’ve got a really good chance of and then of course, it would be even nicer if we could go on and win it.”
Bootle-born Evans was speaking as he returned to the dugout in his home town, taking charge of a Jamie Carragher 23 Foundation team against a Select 11.
It was another victory, 4-1, for the man who ended his solo Reds managerial career with a win percentage of almost 52 per cent before the short-lived joint manager months with Gerard Houllier in 1998.
