Dortmund issue warning over Pulisic
Borussia Dortmund have handed Liverpool a setback in their pursuit of Christian Pulisic, telling the Reds not to waste their time in trying to sign the American prodigy.
Jurgen Klopp is a keen admirer of the 18-year-old forward, with the club failing with their summer bid of £11.5million.
Pulisic’s reputation has continued to grow this season, making nine Bundesliga appearances and starring in his side’s Champions League campaign.
The Hershey-born attacker has also starred for the US national team, strengthening Dortmund’s resolve in rejecting any interest.
And now Dortmund’s sporting director, Michael Zorc, has told Liverpool to forget signing him.
Speaking to German newspaper Bild, he said: “It’s not worth the effort for Liverpool.”
The Reds are currently open to bringing in a fresh face this January after a season-ending injury to Danny Ings, and Sadio Mane’s involvement in this winter’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Money will be made available by Liverpool’s owners if needed and speaking last month, Klopp admitted he could enter the transfer market once it reopens.
“We watch the market all the time and of course we need to be prepared for different situations and one of them is injuries,” Klopp said.
“The African Cup of Nations we already knew about so we don’t need to be influenced or surprised by that, but it could be a moment when we approach the market.
“It’s not about about how many strikers. Three strikers is enough, I think. But when Sadio is away we will be without a winger. We do not have many wingers, I would say.
“Roberto Firmino could play as a kind of a winger which would then just give us two strikers. It is a long way to go from January onwards and that month of January is busy.”
