Liverpool believe transfer for Real Madrid ace possible
Liverpool believe they are the frontrunners for the signature of Real Madrid star James Rodriguez, reports say.
The midfielder was the star of the 2014 World Cup but has fallen further and further down the priorities list at Real since arriving after the tournament.
Manchester United and Chelsea are rumoured to be monitoring the situation, but Jurgen Klopp’s side have already made their move.
Liverpool have consistently investigated whether a deal for Rodriguez could be arranged, but have been knocked back in every attempt.
But the Reds are now confident the transfer will go ahead as long as they secure Champions League football.
The Mirror claim Liverpool have been in contact with Rodriguez’s agent and have been given an encouraging response.
Rodriguez is thought to be valued at around £65 million by Real who are now open to parting ways with the once irreplaceable asset.
Zinedine Zidane has told Real to go out and find him different options in midfield this summer.
The order leaves Rodriguez in limbo and the Colombian has decided to explore the possibility of a summer move.
Liverpool will not be the only club interested in Rodriguez, but are confident they can push the deal over the line should they secure a Champions League spot.
The Reds currently occupy the final European spot in fourth, but Manchester United have the opportunity to leapfrog them should the Red Devils win their two games in hand.
