Liverpool linked with 'new Michael Laudrup'
He's been dubbed the new Michael Laudrup – now reported Liverpool target Mikkel Duelund is eager to impress potential suitors by upsetting England.
The 19-year-old Danish midfielder will line up for his country's U21 side against the Young Lions tomorrow in his homeland.
Duelund's tally of 10 goals in 13 U19s games surpassed the Denmark record of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus great Laudrup.
Liverpool were said to be tracking the FC Midtjylland youngster last year, with claims they were the club Duelund rejected overtures from in order to continue learning his trade at home.
And of tomorrow's match, he said: “I'm only 19 and this U21 game against the English talents is a great test for me.
“Most of the opponents are a couple of years older than me and playing in leagues where I want to be playing in the future.
“Christian Eriksen is an inspiration playing in the Premier League, but he was 21-and-a-half years old – I've checked it – when he moved from Ajax to Tottenham.
“Maybe I also need another stepping stone before being ready for the absolute top level. I have great ambitions, and I dream of the big leagues like the Premier League. But I know that I need to be patient.”
Of his decision to stay in Denmark, Duelund added: “It was too early for me to move abroad, since I wanted to be part of a first team – not a youth or reserve squad.
“There has been different rumours linking me to other big clubs. That's flattering, but I keep my focus on my development.”
