Liverpool have upper hand in battle for Burnley star
Liverpool have the upper hand in the battle to sign Burnley ace Michael Keane this summer, according to reports.
Keane has enjoyed a productive season at Turf Moor as the Clarets have moved five points clear of the relegation zone.
The 24-year-old was rewarded for his consistent performances with a call-up to the England squad in March – Keane made his international debut in the 1-0 friendly defeat to Germany.
Manchester United, who sold Keane to Burnley two years ago, are set to target the Stockport-born star in the summer, with Jose Mourinho eyeing reinforcements ahead of the 2017-18 season.
Mourinho is said to believe that Keane can become his new John Terry at Old Trafford but the United boss will have to beat a host of rivals to secure his signature.
Chelsea, Everton and Manchester City are all understood to be keeping tabs on the defender but ESPN FC say Liverpool could yet emerge as the frontrunners in the transfer race.
It is claimed Keane has reservations about returning to the Theatre of Dreams after being left frustrated by his departure under Louis van Gaal, opening the door to Jurgen Klopp’s Reds.
