Liverpool shelve Thomas Lemar interest
Liverpool have shelved their interest in Thomas Lemar and are now solely focused on a deal for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Mirror Sport understands that reports the Reds are sending a team to Monaco to negotiate a deal are false and that Lemar will not be heading to Anfield.
The Reds were keen on the French international, but believe the price has gone too high, with Monaco wanting £75million.
Additionally, there was added pressure to get the deal done on Wednesday, with France facing Holland at the Stade de France on Thursday night in a World Cup qualifier.
Reds chiefs believed they simply didn’t have time to get the deal done and preferred the wantaway Arsenal midfielder as an alternative.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is now set to move north, provided the club can agree a deal with Arsenal.
The England midfielder has rejected a switch to Chelsea, even though Arsenal agreed a £40million deal with their London rivals.
Oxlade-Chamberlain snubbed Chelsea was because they would have played him as a wing-back and he sees his future in the centre of midfield.
