Timo Werner reveals his plans for next season
Germany striker Timo Werner intends to stay at RB Leipzig next season despite emerging as a target for a number of Premier League clubs.
Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal have all been linked with summer moves for Werner, who has scored 31 goals in 55 league games since signing for Leipzig two years ago.
The 22-year-old was tipped to leave the Bundesliga side last summer and another productive season has caught the attention of a host of European clubs, including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Werner intensified speculation he could soon be set to join the Premier League last week when he admitted he ‘dreams’ of playing in England.
‘Yes, playing in the Premier League is a dream for me,’ he told FourFourTwo. ‘I would like to play for two or three clubs, and Manchester United are one of those clubs.
‘But probably not in the next few years – later, when my English is a little bit better! I’m very comfortable at RB Leipzig, though.’
Despite revealing his interest in the Premier League, Werner said on Sunday that he will ‘definitely’ be staying at Leipzig until next season.
Speaking after the goalless draw with Stuttgart, Werner was asked if he would see out his contract at Leipzig – which expires in 2022 – and said: ‘Next year, definitely, I will stay in Leipzig.’
Werner started his career at Stuttgart but has taken his game to another level while at Leipzig. He starred at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup and is expected to feature for Germany at next summer’s World Cup.
