Liverpool have been buoyed in their pursuit of Max Meyer, as the players agent has reportedly cancelled a meeting with his current club Schalke.

The Reds are keeping a close eye on the German midfielders situation, with his contract set to expire in the summer.

Meyer has already turned down two fresh offers from his club, and now Schalke president Clemens Tonnies has claimed their planned meeting was called off by his agent.

Speaking to Bild, Tonnies said: “I had an appointment with Max and his advisor, which was cancelled by his agent on short notice.

“If someone doesn’t want to talk to me, I cannot change that.”
