Liverpool set to step up transfer chase for Xherdan Shaqiri
Liverpool will step up their efforts to land Xherdan Shaqiri following the World Cup after receiving initial encouragement report the Mirror.
However, the Switzerland international winger is NOT an alternative buy for Nabil Fekir.
Shaqiri is keen to join the Reds following Stoke City's relegation to the Championship and he is believed to be available for around £12million due to a supposed clause in his contract at the bet365 Stadium.
Liverpool would not be willing to pay more anyway as despite Jurgen Klopp being an admirer of the 26-year-old, his potential role on Merseyside would be one as an alternative to his first choice attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane rather than being one of this summer's marquee signings.
The Reds are now poised to take a step back from the transfer market as the World Cup begins but could make their move for the ex-Bayern Munich and Inter man once the Swiss team's interest in the competition is over.
