Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is working on a secret deal for a goalkeeper after ending the Reds’ pursuit of Alisson Becker.

Liverpool boss Klopp wants a new goalkeeper with Roma shot-stopper Alisson regularly linked over the past few months.

The Brazil international, who is representing his country at the World Cup in Russia, has emerged as a top Reds target.

However, the Liverpool Echo say that Klopp has ended his pursuit of the 25-year-old.

Liverpool are not the only club trying to sign Alisson with Real Madrid and Chelsea also linked.

Real want him as a replacement for Keylor Navas who, despite helping Los Blancos win three Champions League titles on the trot, is primed to be shown the door.

Chelsea have also earmarked Alisson as a potential replacement for Thibaut Courtois.

And Liverpool Echo journalist James Pearce has now provided an update on Liverpool’s pursuit of a new No 1.

“Alisson was the No 1 target but Roma’s asking price and the keeper’s desire to join Real Madrid means those hopes have faded,” he said.

“His future will become clearer once Brazil are no longer in the World Cup.

“I’m sure a lot of work is going on in the background.

“Liverpool have been linked with a whole host of alternatives but I’m told there’s nothing in talk of making a move for either Burnley’s Nick Pope or Lazio’s Thomas Strakosha.”
