Liverpool 'ready to trigger £45m release clause for left-back'
Liverpool have identified Real Betis left-back Junior Firpo as a possible replacement for Alberto Moreno, according to reports.
The Reds are short on cover at the back after Moreno left on a free following Liverpool's Champions League win over Tottenham.
Jurgen Klopp is happy with Andy Robertson as his first choice left-back, but is keen to add quality to his ranks, and has identified the 22-year-old as a target.
The Spain Under-21s international impressed in La Liga last season, and would set Liverpool back a hefty fee should Klopp decide to sign him.
Spanish publication Sport is reporting that the defender has a £45million release clause included in his Betis contract.
Whether Reds manager Klopp would be prepared to spend this sort of cash on a back-up player remains to be seen.
But the German recently explained he has a budget to use at Liverpool and suggested he's not afraid to dip into it.
"Liverpool is an ambitious club and if we didn't spend the same amount of money as others, we wouldn't be able to compete," Klopp told German broadcaster ZDF.
"Everybody's splashing the cash, so we have to do the same."
Liverpool are yet to make a signing in the summer transfer window.
