Liverpool's 'ultimate ambition' is to sign Kylian Mbappe
Liverpool’s 'ultimate ambition' is to sign PSG striker Kylian Mbappe, according to reports.
Liverpool have not been afraid to splash the cash in recent seasons with Virgil van Dijk their record signing - a £75m buy from Southampton.
However, they’ll have to smash their transfer record if they are to lure one of European football’s hottest prospects.
The Reds have been tentatively linked with a mega-money move for striker Mbappe in recent months but PSG would likely command over £200m for his signature.
The Telegraph claim the European champions are determined to buy players who buy in wholly to playing for the best team in Europe and under Jurgen Klopp.
That means targeting the very best up and coming talent and Mbappe is seen as the club’s ‘ultimate ambition.’
However, the Reds are realistic and well aware of the mammoth fees involved to try and convince PSG to sell the 20-year-old.
Liverpool tried to sign Mbappe when he joined PSG from Monaco in 2017 and held encouraging talks before being outbid.
Klopp has also poured cold water on any chance of his team being able to finance a deal for Mbappe.
"(Buying) this calibre of player is difficult,” said Klopp.
"I don't see any club at the moment who can buy Kylian Mbappe from PSG, that is how it is. And we are involved in the clubs that cannot do it, it is as easy as that.
"Okay, from a sporting point of view, there are not a lot of reasons to not sign him, what a player he is. But it is about the money of course. No chance. Absolutely no chance."
While Mbappe remains ambitious, Liverpool are also keeping tabs on Borussia Dortmund ace Jadon Sancho.
