Carla Humphrey is determined to bring an extra attacking dimension to Liverpool FC Women’s style of play and repay Matt Beard’s faith in her.

The Reds’ new No.17 played under the manager at her previous club Bristol City and the pair are now reunited on Merseyside.

Humphrey is a creative midfielder with an eye for goal and becomes Beard’s fifth signing of the summer window so far.

Read on as the new signing reflects on making the move to LFC Women…

On signing for Liverpool FC Women…

I’m so, so excited to be here. I’m really happy, it’s such a big club and I’m just really proud to come and represent Liverpool and the challenge that awaits in trying to get promotion. I’m just really excited to be here.

On training with the team for the first time…

That has been great. We did fitness tests and then we were put through our paces. The girls have been great, they have really helped me settle in and I can’t thank them enough. They have been so lovely and made it easy for me to slot into it. I know a couple of girls from my time at Bristol City and I’ve played with some of the girls here at other clubs, so I’m just excited to get going and play with the girls. I know Jade Bailey well from my time at Arsenal and she is a good friend of mine, so I’m excited to get back playing with her and we’ll see what we can do.

On a good atmosphere at the club with the new signings blending in…

I think it’s good for the girls as well to have a bit of a booster and get some fresh faces in. Obviously Matt has come in with new ideas and a few of us have played under Matt and know what he’s about. Promotion is the key thing that everyone is fighting for, so I’m just excited.

On what she hopes to bring to the team…

I’m quite a creative midfielder. I like to get forward and link in with the players and create chances, and that’s what I want to bring to the team. I have that attacking mindset and I always want to get forward and make something happen. That’s what I will look to do and we have good competition for places here. That is always good and it brings the best out of me and the other girls as well.

On her versatility as a player…

I can play in midfield, anywhere really and I can also play on the wing. I don’t really have a preference. So whether it’s playing in midfield or on the wing, I’m just excited to give my all for this team.

On the challenge of trying to secure promotion back to the Women’s Super League…

I’m so determined. That was the motivation for me coming here and that’s what I really want to do – to help take this club back to where it belongs. It’s something to fight for each week as previously I’ve been fighting a relegation battle and I don’t want to have that anymore. I want to be winning games and pushing for a title and get promotion.

On reuniting with Beard…

I worked with Matt at Bristol City and he was great for me personally. In such a short space of time he improved me massively. I think if he did that in that short time, then what can he do in a full season? He was great for me and I jumped at the chance to work with him again. Also, to be at a club like Liverpool, it just felt like the right fit. I can’t wait for the first game now and to be at a club as big as Liverpool is exciting in itself. To be able to put that shirt on and go and play for this team, I can’t wait.
