50 Men Who Made LFC: Graeme Souness
Not many finer players have pulled on the famous red shirt; Graeme Souness was quite simply one of the best all-round midfield players there has ever been.
A renowned hard man who possessed a subtle touch, he was the general who dictated much of Liverpool's play throughout a glorious six-year playing career.
The influence he exerted on the team was immense and he remains right up there with the most successful captains in the club’s history.
His steely determination to win at all costs perhaps never better illustrated than during the climax to the triumphant treble-winning season of 1983-84.
As manager he won the FA Cup – the only major honour that eluded him as a player – but ultimately could not replicate his success as a player in the dugout.
