50 Men Who Made LFC: Geoff Twentyman
Geoff Twentyman’s role in Liverpool’s most successful years is too often overlooked.
As chief scout during the managerial reigns of Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan, he worked tirelessly to keep the club at the top and could boast a record that was second to none when it came to talent spotting.
A former Liverpool player, Twentyman had been a model professional who always gave his best; an honest, hardworking half-back who was widely respected within the game.
Shankly was a big admirer and it was he who brought him back to the club in 1967. Twentyman cast his scouting net far and wide, travelling the length and breadth of Britain and Ireland in a bid to unearth potential Liverpool stars of the future.
Kevin Keegan, Phil Neal and Ian Rush were just three of his prized discoveries – not a bad trio!
