Widely regarded as one of football’s greatest ever goalkeepers, his remarkable career with the Reds spanned a record-breaking 22 years and he remains one of the most famous figures to have represented the club.
Signed as a rookie 17-year-old, he established himself as Liverpool’s undisputed first choice between the sticks in the early 1920s and missed just three games as back-to-back First Division titles were secured.
Possessing the ‘eye of an eagle, swift movement of a panther and clutch of a vice’, his fame spread way beyond the confines of L4.
Renowned for his expletive-filled tirades against opposition forwards and even his own defenders, the Ireland international enjoyed a great rapport with Kopites of the time and was the subject of the first reported individual player chant at Anfield.
Even when the glory years dried up, Scott’s popularity never once waned. Supporters protested to prevent a potential move to Everton and tears were openly shed the day he finally left.
