Sergi Canos celebrated extending his Brentford loan spell in style by netting the winner with a brilliant solo goal against Reading on Monday.

The young Spaniard rounded two defenders before unleashing an unstoppable effort to make it 2-1 and wrap up the victory for the Bees.

Canos seemed to surprise himself with his 72nd-minute goal and spoke of his delight about events in the past week.

“I can’t believe the goal,” the 18-year-old told Brentford’s official website. “It wasn’t me! I am so happy with the goal because it was to celebrate my loan extension. It was a big three points and the team needed the three points.

“[Manager] Dean Smith is always talking about what is next. I want to enjoy the present but everything is about what is coming next.”

The winger has been in impressive form for the Championship side, recording three goals in 17 appearances following his move in September.

Last week Canos extended his stay at Griffin Park until the end of the season and the youngster revealed that he was desperate to continue playing for the eighth-placed club.

“It has been a great 24 hours because all I wanted to do was stay at Brentford,” the former Barcelona trainee added.

“From day one at Brentford I have wanted to stay here until the end of the season because I am learning a lot here. This is an amazing club and it is great to be playing here.”
