LFC hosts Christmas celebrations for hundreds of Anfield pensioners

The club hosted the parties on Monday December 12 and Tuesday December 13 in the stadium’s newly-refurbished Reds Lounge.   

This is the first year LFC has hosted the event, which was previously held at Anfield Breckside Community Council (ABCC.)

Last year, the club provided a chef and front-of-house manager to ABCC to help prepare and serve the food for the local pensioners during their week-long event.  

Guests were welcomed by Liverpool ambassador Gary McAllister on Monday and former Everton player Ian Snodin on Tuesday. They also enjoyed a three-course Christmas meal and some festive carol singing. 

A number of LFC staff volunteered at the event, joining ABCC volunteers to help serve the food and ensure that all the pensioners’ needs were catered to.  

The event was also supported by Everton FC and the ‘Fans Supporting Foodbanks’ programme, which kindly donated some food for the dinner.

Anfield resident Eric Armstrong, who attended the party on Monday, said: “It was a brilliant afternoon, everything was fantastic - the atmosphere, the food, the service. I’d give it a 10 out of 10.”

Dot Higgins, 81, added: “I had a really good time at Anfield. To share such a fun day in a great environment with my friends was wonderful.  

“The food was delicious and I really enjoyed the carol singing, I’m already looking forward to next year.”

Susan Black, director of communications at Liverpool FC, said: “We were delighted to host the pensioners Christmas party at Anfield this year and help to provide an important event to the local elderly community.  

“Great credit goes to the many ABCC volunteers and our own club staff who volunteered to help out at the event, from chefs and waiting staff to office staff who helped out with a range of activity on the day. 

“This is another fantastic example of how LFC is working with the Anfield community to help make special experiences and memories for local people.”
