LFC Foundation hosts female empowerment session in Boston
Liverpool FC Foundation, the club’s official charity, has teamed up with the Red Sox Foundation to deliver a female empowerment session in Boston, USA.
A local girls soccer team from McKay Middle School in East Boston joined the two foundations and local non-profit organisation, Boston Scores, at East Boston Memorial Stadium for a morning of skills workshops and activities as part of a new twinning project.
LFC Foundation staff delivered a football clinic, which included teamwork and communication skills, before hosting a Q&A with the 16 youngsters. The group then headed to the home of the Red Sox, Fenway Park, for the afternoon to take in a baseball game.
Gemma Smith, LFC Foundation's senior project manager, said: “This session will be the start of an exciting twinning and distant learning project between girls here in Boston and back home in Merseyside.
“The girls will connect regularly over the coming months and share their ambitions, aspirations and fears as well as discussing what it means to be a woman who achieves.
“We’re really excited to hopefully see some strong relationships develop between the girls going forward.”
The project will culminate in a women’s empowerment and networking event in July when LFC Foundation returns to Boston on the club’s pre-season tour.
