LFC Foundation will mark today's International Day of the Girl with a range of activities across its programmes.

Founded by the UN in 2012, International Day of the Girl is celebrated annually on October 11 and the occasion aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges that girls face, while promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights.

This year’s theme is GirlForce: Unscripted and Unstoppable – supporting all girls to amplify their voices and stand up for their rights.

LFC Foundation will host a special 9v9 GirlForce football tournament at Anfield Sports and Community Centre (ASCC) this evening, which will see Premier League Kicks Girls participants from different sessions across Liverpool come together for an hour of competitive football.

Liverpool FC Women midfielder Missy Bo Kearns will meet with youngsters at ASCC to share her experience and advice and take part in a Q&A session.

LFC Foundation participants and their families will also be gifted 100 free tickets to the Reds’ Women’s Super League fixture against Bristol City on Sunday.

Across all LFC Foundation programmes throughout the day, women and girls will be given the opportunity to celebrate International Day of the Girl by being photographed with bespoke #GirlForce social media frames.
