LFC Foundation’s Open Goals returns for 2020
The LFC Foundation will resume its Open Goals sessions for local families across Liverpool next week.
The scheme – which provides local youngsters and families with a space to play, socialise and try new sports – returns on Saturday February 8 in public parks and indoor centres throughout Liverpool City Region.
Park sessions take place at Stanley Park, Norris Green Park, Crown Street Park, Newsham Park and Garston Park each Saturday and at Doric Park each Sunday.
Indoor sessions are also held on weeknights at Bowersdale Resource Centre in Bowersdale Park, Alchemy Youth and Community Centre in Coronation Park and Jubilee Sports Bank in Jubilee Park.
Funded by the Premier League Charitable Fund and the Professional Footballers Association, Open Goals was launched in 2018 and is designed to bring families together to make the most of local spaces, get active and make new friends.
The free sessions are delivered by qualified LFC Foundation coaches, who provide a range of fun-filled games and activities that are inclusive for people of all abilities aged five and over.
Last season, Liverpool FC players Curtis Jones and Ben Woodburn visited an Open Goals session at Stanley Park – participating in games of Kwik Cricket, Ultimate Frisbee and orienteering.
Woodburn said: “You can see that it benefits the local community a lot. It gets kids out of their houses with their families – it’s nice for them to do something together.”
