LFC Foundation hosts Black History Month football festival
LFC Foundation hosted a Black History Month-themed football festival last week, which concluded the club’s celebrations.
Forty youngsters from the Premier League’s Kicks Inclusion and Kicks Girls programmes took part in their practical sessions at the Power League Sports Club, which was followed by an anti-racism workshop to help educate participants on the importance of Black History Month, inclusion and racial diversity.
In Wavertree, the LFC Foundation Kicks Development Squad also took part in the educational workshop followed by a friendly fixture with Fowler’s Education and Football Academy (FEFA).
Delivered by LFC Foundation, Kicks is the Premier League’s flagship community programme, which uses the power of football and sport to inspire young people in some of the most high-need areas of England and Wales.
Following Black History Month, LFC Foundation will continue its support for racial equality with educational sessions throughout the season – also attended by first-team players from both the men’s and women’s teams – that are designed to educate teens at local primary and secondary schools on the issues of race discrimination and the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion.
Matt Parish, LFC Foundation director, said: “This month and every month, it is integral that we recognise the importance of racial diversity and teach our children and young people the importance of diversity, equality and inclusion in every aspect of life.
“We look forward to continuing our support for racial equality with a range of educational sessions set to take place in our local schools throughout this season and beyond.”
Black History Month, which takes place for the duration of October, is an annual event to help promote and celebrate black contributions to British society, and to ultimately promote a better knowledge and understanding of the history of the black community.
Across LFC, Black History Month has been celebrated with a host of events and activities to help raise awareness and educate its fans and staff on racial equality.
The club has also collaborated with the Premier League, Kick It Out, Show Racism the Red Card and the Football Association on a number of key equality, diversity and inclusion campaigns throughout the year to help drive change and make the football community more inclusive.
