Adam Lallana is edging closer to a Liverpool debut, Brendan Rodgers has confirmed.

The midfielder is in full training with his teammates after a knee injury sustained during the club's tour of the United States halted the start of his Anfield career.

However, Lallana took another step on the comeback trail by scoring the only goal of the game in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Melwood last week, and Rodgers is pleased with his progress.

In an exclusive interview with Liverpoolfc.com, the boss said: "He's looked very good. He is obviously short of match fitness, but the only way he is going to get that is by playing.

"He featured in the game we had here at Melwood against Wolves behind closed doors, scored the winning goal and did very well. In training he's worked very, very hard.

"It's just about him getting the minutes and the game time, and we'll look forward to introducing him back to that over the next couple of weeks."

Lallana could get his first taste of playing at Anfield as a Liverpool player in Saturday's Barclays Premier League clash with Aston Villa, if selected.

Fellow summer signings Alberto Moreno, Lazar Markovic and Mario Balotelli are also set for home debuts for their new club.

"It'll be brilliant for them," Rodgers said. "It'll be great for them to sample the support and playing in that cauldron of Anfield.

"It's a special place to play football - it certainly is to manage. I know the players are looking forward to that."
