Gerrard and co pick their 'Perfect Match'
Three Liverpool stars have revealed what they consider a 'Perfect Match' ahead of the latest occasion when the Reds will support Standard Chartered's 'Seeing is Believing' initiative out on the field.
For the fourth consecutive year, the club has joined forces with its main sponsor to raise awareness of a global campaign that aims to tackle avoidable blindness and transform lives around the world.
The centrepiece of a fortnight's activity is the team's home fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday February 10, when the players will once again proudly sport the 'Seeing is Believing' logo on their shirts.
Before that 'Perfect Match' Anfield contest, a trio from Brendan Rodgers' squad were quizzed on the perfect match they have experienced with Liverpool so far and what their dream game would be in the future.
"I've been lucky enough to play in a few," said the captain, Steven Gerrard, who featured in his 700th fixture for the Reds on Wednesday night. "We speak all the time about Istanbul.
"When you play for Liverpool and with the success I've had, I can name a lot of perfect matches that I've been involved in thanks to my teammates and the support we've had."
His midfield colleague Adam Lallana arrived on Merseyside only last summer and nominated a festive encounter as his finest yet. "Probably the Swansea match, where I got a couple of goals," was the No.20's verdict.
"We have been on a good run of late, so there are lots of matches to choose from. We just need to keep that momentum that we've picked up after the Christmas period."
And the England midfielder's 'Perfect Match' ambitions for the future? "A cup final, getting to the FA Cup final - having a big part to play in winning that would be brilliant."
Centre-back Mamadou Sakho was on the field the day the Reds dramatically overcame Manchester City in an epic Barclays Premier League tussle of 2013-14.
"So far for Liverpool, my perfect match was last season against Manchester City," recalled the Frenchman.
"It was a crazy game, unbelievable, but finally we won the game. All of the players and the whole stadium felt a positive energy and I'll never forget that.
"Going forward, my perfect match would be if we were playing for three points to win the league. I would cry, for sure, because I want to win a trophy with Liverpool and the best, for me, is to win the league."
