Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will be presented with a special merit award by the PFA on Sunday evening in recognition of his incredible 17-year Anfield career.

The talismanic midfielder has scored 183 goals in 705 appearances for the Reds and lifted the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup as the club's captain.

This summer, he will bid farewell to join LA Galaxy in the United States, but not before the football world has paused to acknowledge his achievements on Merseyside.

The PFA hosts its annual awards ceremony this Sunday, where Gerrard will join former England colleague Frank Lampard in collecting a special individual accolade.

Philippe Coutinho is one of six players nominated for the prestigious PFA Players' Player of the Year honour, with the prize-winner set to be announced at the event.

The Brazilian midfielder is also in contention for the Young Player of the Year award, as is Liverpool teammate Raheem Sterling.
