Lallana: I know what I need to do
Adam Lallana insists he is working hard on the training field to improve his goal tally after what he describes as an 'up and down' debut campaign for him at Anfield.
The England international has suffered a series of niggling injury problems which has seen him make 39 appearances in total, firing five goals.
Lallana is his own biggest critic and admits scoring more goals is high on his list of priorities for next season.
"I'll have my rest in the summer as it's important a player gets his rest at the end of the season, but I'm looking forward to the start of next season," he told Liverpoolfc.com.
"It's been up and down this season for me picking up lots of injuries which have prevented me from really kicking on, but I'm excited for Saturday's game and we want to finish the season off with a couple of wins.
"I'm working on my finishing and am always looking forward to improving my game.
"At the start of the season I wanted to get into double figures, which I haven't managed to do, but I'll be looking to improve that next season."
Saturday's final home game of 2014-15 will be an emotional occasion as Steven Gerrard will wave goodbye to the Kop on his farewell Anfield appearance.
Lallana has described the captain as 'irreplaceable' and admits it will take a collective responsibility from everyone in the squad to help fill the void.
He added: "I don't think it's really hit home yet. The weekend is obviously going to be emotional especially for Stevie himself, but we've also got another game away at Stoke City so it's going to be different with a lot of different emotions.
"He will leave an almost irreplaceable gap in the centre and the heart of the team. We've mentioned it before, but every player is going to have to pull their weight and give an extra few per cent, because I don't think there's one player or a group of players that can fully replace him.
"This group is full of leaders and I think it's a perfect time for everyone to step up and express themselves to a bigger degree.
"Liverpool is a fantastic club and I feel next year can be the stepping stone for many good years to come."
Alan Pardew's Eagles will head into this weekend's clash looking to try and spoil the Gerrard party and they have pride to play for having lost their last four top-flight games.
Lallana insists it's important that the team perform to their highest standards, not only to give the skipper a fitting send-off, but send the supporters home happy as well.
He added: "Palace are a good team and we've had several tough games away from home against them this year. They will be looking for a response because they've lost a few games in a row now after getting safe, but it's going to be a tough game and I'm looking forward to it.
"The season has been a bit different because we've lost a few games at home but it's important to put as much pressure as we can on United. It's not mathematically over yet so we need to get the win.
"They lost three games on the bounce recently so if they were to lose their last two games and we won our last two then you never know.
"We have just got to concentrate on ourselves, do our job, and then the outcome will be the outcome come the end of the season.
"We've had ups and downs this season. We went out of the Champions League early and have had a couple of disappointing results at home, but then again we beat Manchester City at home and it was just about finding that level of consistency and we have had some good performances.
"It's just about finding that right level of consistency and I'm sure the younger players can mature off this season and hopefully transform it into more consistent performances on the field."
