Liverpool kick off their 2015-16 Europa League campaign against Bordeaux this evening - check out 12 interesting pre-match facts ahead of the game here.

The sides have been drawn against each other once before in European competition. They met in Group C of the 2006-07 Champions League campaign with Liverpool winning 1-0 in France - Peter Crouch scoring the only goal.

In the return, Luis Garcia scored twice with Steven Gerrard also on target as the Reds ran out 3-0 winners. Liverpool went on to reach the final that year only to lose to AC Milan.

Bordeaux are one of 10 different French teams to meet Liverpool in European competition. Liverpool last met French opposition in 2009-10, losing 1-0 at Lille in this competition but winning the home leg at Anfield 3-0.

Liverpool are one of four English teams to win this competition in its various guises. No French club has won it though four teams have reached the final, including Bordeaux who lost over two legs to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Cup final in 1995-96.

The Reds have progressed from this stage of the Europa League on both previous appearances, topping the group each time.

Divock Origi played against Bordeaux three times last season while on loan at Lille, starting in an away fixture and appearing as a substitute in two others. 

Mamadou Sakho last played against Bordeaux in a 1-0 win for Paris St Germain in January 2013.

Liverpool's record in France against French clubs stands at five wins, seven defeats and one draw from 13 visits. 

Bordeaux have met English opposition on five occasions, last doing so when they played against Newcastle in 2012-13 and were beaten 3-0 in England before winning 2-0 at home in the group phase.

Of their 10 games played against teams from this country Bordeaux have won once - that win over Newcastle. They have lost seven times; to Liverpool and Manchester United twice each and Aston Villa, Chelsea and Newcastle once. 

Bordeaux coach Willy Sagnol won the Champions League with Bayern Munich in 2001 and was a runner-up with France in the World Cup final five years later.
