In 2000-01 Liverpool won 8-0 at the Britannia Stadium in the fourth round of this competition to record the biggest away victory in the club's history. The scorers were Christian Ziege, Vladimir Smicer, Markus Babbel, Robbie Fowler (3, 1 pen), Sami Hyypia and Danny Murphy.   

The last meeting in this competition saw the Reds come from behind to win 2-1 in 2011 with two second half Luis Suarez goals.

In each of the last three League Cup clashes between the sides, Liverpool have won and gone on to lift the trophy.

The Reds have met Stoke in the Potteries on five occasions in cup competitions and have never lost – winning three in the League Cup and drawing twice in the FA Cup.

22 players have been used by Liverpool in this cup run with Simon Mignolet, Mamadou Sakho and Christian Benteke yet to feature.

Stoke have reached the League Cup final twice. In 1964 they lost over two legs to Leicester City but eight years later lifted the trophy after a 2-1 win over Chelsea with 35-year-old veteran George Eastham scoring the winner.

This is their first League Cup semi-final since 1972.

This season Stoke have won five of their last six games at home in all competitions including victories over Chelsea (twice) and both Manchester clubs.
