Liverpool and Augsburg meet for the first time in European competition and the Germans will be the Reds' 122nd different European opponents.

The Reds reached this stage by finishing top of Group B with 10 points (two wins and four draws) while Augsburg were runners-up to Athletic Bilbao in Group L with nine points (three wins and three defeats).

Liverpool were one of only five teams to get through the group stage undefeated - the others being Napoli, Lazio, Schalke and Sparta Prague.

The Reds are also one of 11 previous winners of the competition in the Round of 32. Anderlecht, Porto, Tottenham, Sevilla, Napoli, Bayer Leverkusen, Valencia, Galatasaray, Schalke and Shakhtar Donetsk are the other 10.

Liverpool have won one of their last eight away ties in Europe - against Rubin Kazan - drawing three and losing four.

Of the 24 players to have represented the club in Europe this season only Simon Mignolet has started all six games although Adam Lallana and Emre Can have also featured in them all.

Of all current players, Lucas is the club's leading scorer in Europe with three goals.

Steven Caulker, Daniel Sturridge and Joao Carlos Teixeira could appear in a European game for the first time this season. This would be Sturridge's third European appearance in Liverpool colours, but he is still awaiting a first goal.

This will be the first time in 13 years the Reds have faced German opposition, winning 3-1 in 2005 against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League both home and away.

The Reds last away win in the knockout stage of a European competition came in August 2012 when they won 1-0 at Hearts.

Jürgen Klopp has faced Augsburg 10 times in domestic games in Germany with Mainz and Dortmund, with a record of five wins, three draws and two defeats.

Liverpool go into the game fresh from equalling their biggest ever top-flight away victory - beating Aston Villa 6-0.

This is Augsburg's first ever European campaign and Liverpool will be their first ever English opponents.

The German club qualified for their first European campaign by finishing fifth in last season's Bundesliga. They won 15 and lost 15 of 34 games, both scoring and conceding 43 goals.

Augsburg go into this game on the back of a four game winless streak. They were beaten 3-1 at home by Bayern Munich last Sunday. Raul Bobadilla, who has scored in Europe for Young Boys against Liverpool in 2012 at Anfield, netted his 11th goal of the season in all competitions.

They have not won any of their last three home games and have won just one of their last seven at the WWK Arena.
