Vladimir Smicer's first goal for Liverpool came in a win at Vicarage Road back in January 2000.

After losing at Tottenham Hotspur in the first game of 2000 and then crashing out of the FA Cup at home to Blackburn Rovers, Gerard Houllier's Reds needed some inspiration.

It duly arrived in a five-goal thriller at Vicarage Road as they showed their mettle to win 3-2.

Graham Taylor's Hornets had already beaten Liverpool that campaign at Anfield thanks to Tommy Mooney's goal - but there was to be no double.

Strikes from Patrik Berger and David Thompson put the Reds in control, but the hosts soon pulled it back to 2-2 courtesy of efforts from Richard Johnson and Heidar Helguson.

However, Liverpool weren't to be denied and Smicer won it with a low shot in the 71st minute to seal a 3-2 win.
