Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum was on target for the Netherlands in their friendly with Greece on Thursday night.

The summer signing from Newcastle United put his country ahead in the 14th minute with a fortunate close-range finish from a cross into the box.

It proved mere consolation for the Dutch in Eindhoven, however, as Greece fought back to claim a 2-1 result. Wijnaldum was withdrawn on 72 minutes.

Divock Origi started for Belgium as they were beaten 2-0 by Spain. The Reds forward featured for 67 minutes in Brussels, while Simon Mignolet was an unused substitute.

Philippe Coutinho was involved in Brazil’s 3-0 victory over Ecuador in South American qualifying for the World Cup, entering the action in Quito for the final half-hour.
