Jürgen Klopp: Our squad strength is the best thing
Having more than 11 players pushing for a place in his team makes life 'not really easy' for Jürgen Klopp – but the manager would not have it any other way.
The German changed his entire side from last Saturday’s victory over West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League to the EFL Cup win against Tottenham Hotspur three days later.
Both matches ended in a 2-1 result for the Reds, with each line-up producing a performance that merited more goals and a greater winning margin.
And Klopp has no complaints about juggling a squad of such quality.
He said: “The best thing is that I have a starting line-up and on the bench I have six players who push me to bring them on because of their shape, because of their performance in training and because of their performance in the last game.
“It makes my life not really easy but it’s the best thing. We have the opportunity to make good changes. Having more than 11 players in good shape is the only possibility to be successful.
“At the first whistle not everyone will be in the exact position they want to be. But if they stay patient then they can be more often in this position.
“A lot of people wrote Alberto Moreno off but he’s in the best shape since I’ve been here. Both centre-halves played really well [against Tottenham], the same with both full-backs.”
